Out and About with Confidence: Introducing St John Queensland’s Accompanied Activities

Maintaining independence and staying connected to your local community shouldn't feel daunting. Whether it's running everyday errands, keeping up with health appointments, or enjoying a casual coffee catch-up, having a reliable companion by your side can make all the difference.

To help Queenslanders stay active, independent, and supported, St John Queensland is excited to announce the launch of our new Accompanied Activities service!

This service provides dedicated, one-on-one support tailored to your unique needs. From doorstep pick-up to compassionate assistance while you are out, our trained support workers are there to ensure your outings are safe, stress-free, and enjoyable.

What Are Accompanied Activities?

Accompanied Activities offer individual, person-centred support so you can live life on your terms. Our friendly team members do more than just provide transport, they walk alongside you, lend a helping hand, and offer cheerful companionship throughout your journey.

Here are just a few ways you can use this service:

  • Shopping & Essential Errands: Get assistance with your weekly groceries, carrying heavy bags, pushing trolleys, or browsing your favourite local shops.

  • Medical & Health Appointments: Arrive safely and on time for GP visits, hospital appointments, blood tests, or physiotherapy, with someone to support you every step of the way.

  • Social & Leisure Outings: Reconnect with hobbies you love, enjoy a walk along the beach, visit the local library, or catch up for tea and cake with friends.

  • Compassionate Support: Receive quiet, respectful companionship during life’s more sensitive moments, such as attending funerals, farewells, or visits of remembrance.

Understanding Fees & Government Funding Support

While Accompanied Activities is a fee-based service, getting the support you need may be more affordable than you think.

Depending on your individual circumstances, the cost can often be subsidised or fully covered through government funding packages, such as My Aged Care (including the Commonwealth Home Support Programme) or other relevant funding streams. Self-funded options are also available for those who wish to pay directly. Our friendly intake team is always happy to guide you through the process and discuss how your funding package can be used.

Ready to Get Out and About?

If you or a loved one could benefit from a helping hand to get back out into the community with peace of mind, we would love to support you.
