Committed to the principles of corporate governance

The St John Ambulance Queensland Board of Directors sets the direction of our organisation and ensures strong governance in terms of responsibility, self-regulation, prudent management of funds, best practice, and community services consistent with the culture and values of the Order of St John and the St John Ambulance Australia Queensland Limited Constitution. All Board director positions are voluntary. 

Day to day management of affairs and implementation of corporate strategy and policy initiatives are delegated by the Board to the Chief Executive Officer, supported by an Executive Management Team.

Glen Morrison 

Chair

Adjunct Associate Professor Glen Morrison OStJ, MACPara, MBA Glen is a strategically focused and passionate executive with a proven track record in driving clinical and operational service excellence and achieving outstanding business outcomes. With extensive experience across the public service, private sector, and for-purpose organisations, Glen brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to his roles. 

Glen’s journey began as a young Cadet with St John, a pivotal experience that shaped his career path to becoming a Registered Paramedic. Throughout his career, Glen has held various roles, including a notable position on the Queensland Health Executive Team, where he played an integral part in the successful rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine to Queenslanders. 

In addition to his work with St John Queensland, Glen has served as a Non-Executive Director for the Queensland Ambulance Legacy Scheme and the Kenneth James McPherson Education & Research Foundation. Currently, Glen is the Group Chief Operating Officer for a Brisbane-based Private Equity Firm. Despite his demanding role, he has remained an active member of the St John family for over 20 years, serving as a Director, Deputy Chair, and current as the Chairman of the Board.

Ray Thurlow 

Deputy Chair

Ray is an environment, health and safety professional with a global pharmaceutical company and holds the position of EHS Director for its Asia Pacific Region. He has held senior management roles at local, national and global levels. Ray is a Chartered Professional Member of the Safety Institute of Australia, Technical Member of the International Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), Member of the American Association of Safety Professionals, Deputy Chair/Director of the National Safety Council of Australia Foundation and the Australian Head Delegate of the Asia Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organisation (APOSHO). Throughout his 30+ years in this field he has dealt with government, semi-government and other local and global stakeholders. 

Ray has dedicated over 20 years of volunteer service to St John Ambulance at divisional, regional and State level and held the position Deputy Commissioner. Ray is a member of the Order of St John.

Miriam Kent

Director

Miriam is an accomplished executive with extensive expertise in transforming customer and community experiences across both public and private sectors. 

As CEO of Gallipoli Medical Research (GMR), a leading independent research institute, Miriam directs the organisation’s pioneering biopsychosocial research, which addresses contemporary health issues among veterans, their families and the wider community. 

Miriam has delivered commercial success and operational excellence for some of the most renowned brands in Australia and the UK. Her transformative leadership style is grounded in driving strategic change, empowering high-performing teams, and fostering a culture of coaching and growth. 

A trusted and influential senior leader, Miriam is known for building authentic, meaningful relationships with stakeholders, and navigating complex environments with clarity and integrity. She is also a member of the Queensland Futures Institute Futures Council, where she contributes her insights to help shape the state’s long-term social and economic priorities.

Tom Lynch

Thomas Lynch CA, MBA, CAICD

Director

Thomas is a seasoned business professional with over 15 years of experience in business management and financial control across various sectors. 

He has been recognized for his natural ability to implement strategies that improve efficiency and for his expertise in managing cash flow, accounts payable, and financial analysis. 

Thomas is a progressive, driven, and detail-oriented expert in managerial finance. He is reliable in delivering superior solutions that yield profitable results on time and within budget. 

Currently, Thomas serves as the Chief Financial Officer, Company Director, and Secretary at SMW Group Australia. In this role, he oversees the entire finance function and shared services, ranging from banking arrangements to accounting processes and reporting. He also provides ongoing expertise and guidance to key operational employees in areas such as process improvement, daily operations, and compliance reporting. 

With extensive experience in stakeholder engagement, Thomas collaborates closely with senior leadership, finance teams, HR teams, and other stakeholders to ensure that the company’s financial support structure effectively drives the business forward while minimizing expenditures.

Michael Andrews Board Chair

Michael Andrews MStJ JP (Qual) MACPara MAIES

Director

Michael Andrews is a Registered Paramedic and Health Service Executive who is recognised for leveraging people, processes, and technology to solve some of the most pressing threats to health while enhancing organisational capability and patient care standards. 

Currently, Michael is the Executive Director, Office of the Commissioner at St John Ambulance Papua New Guinea – a Council of Ambulance Authorities service that provides the national ambulance service on behalf of the government – providing strategic and operational leadership. In this role, he oversees the strategic and operational aspects of the national ambulance service and corporate and shared services. In addition, he’s engaged by the Queensland Ambulance Service in a clinical capacity and is the Managing Director of Pacific Islands Medical Services. 

With over 17 years of experience in St John and ambulance around the world, Michael’s expertise and experience in government relations, donor funding, models of care, rural and remote health, and organisational transformation have been leveraged to ensure health services are fit-for-purpose and at the forefront of innovation. 

Michael was admitted as a Member of the Order of St John in 2022 for his work in advancing the objects and purposes of the Order internationally. Externally, Michael has been named as a McKinsey & Company ‘Emerging Leader in Health’, and has been awarded a Pro Bono Australia IMPACT 25 Award as one of the ‘Most Influential Leaders in the Social Sector’. Michael is currently serving as CEO for St John in the Solomon Island

Peter Warrener ASM

Chief Executive Officer

Peter joined St John Ambulance Queensland in 2025 as an experienced Senior Executive, recognised for his exceptional people skills and extensive strategic expertise. He is also a registered paramedic. 

With a unique skill set, Peter excels in driving operational excellence within complex environments. His strong communication skills allow him to engage stakeholders at all levels, uniting teams and partners around a shared vision to achieve high performance. As a natural problem solver, Peter consistently anticipates and addresses challenges from multiple perspectives, leading to improved outcomes. 

In his previous role with the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Peter led initiatives that enhanced community resilience, including developing strategies for effective models of primary healthcare to communities as well as resilience education programs such as CPR awareness, virtual care and referral services. He also led the COVID-19 response for communication centres throughout Queensland. 

Early in his career at QAS, Peter transformed the organisation’s commercial capabilities, evolving it from a traditional paramedical service into a comprehensive safety management and WHS provider, boosting its competitive advantage. 

Authentic, adaptable, and driven, Peter brings the focus and commitment essential for organisations to thrive. He processes a unique and authentic people centric management style, ensuring that humanity at work is the foundation to build from.

Stephanee Belmonte

General Manager People and Marketing Services

Stephanee joined St John Ambulance Queensland in 2024. As part of the Executive Leadership Team, Stephanee oversees the People and Culture function, as well as the organisational Marketing, Communications, Grants and Fundraising activities. 

Stephanee is an MBA qualified senior HR leader with 20 years of experience working with Profit and Not for Profit industries. She is a passionate, collaborative and values driven role model with strong stakeholder skills specialised in Human Resource Management. 

Stephanee has worked across a diverse range of industries including Community Services, Government, Public Transportation, Consumer Goods, Health and Aged Care, and Hospitality and Gaming, operating within state based, national and global organisations. 

Stephanee is highly skilled in all facets of strategic and operational Human Resource Management (HRM) including Transformational Change, Workplace and Industrial Relations, Recruitment, Strategic Planning and execution, Coaching, Learning and Development, Employee Experience and Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion, Employee Wellbeing, Reward and Recognition, Performance Management, and Organisational Design. 

Throughout her year career, she has demonstrated her commitment and success in building effective relationships, using her strong interpersonal and influencing skills to develop and implement HR strategies and programs that drive organisational effectiveness and fostering a positive work culture. She is well experienced in working with senior leadership teams and CEOs to provide strategic human resources advice, solutions and leadership to drive business objectives and team cohesion.

Tanya

Tanya Trevena

General Manager Health Services

Tanya brings extensive experience in leading multidisciplinary teams, driving service transformation, and implementing innovative solutions across health, aged care, and community services.

Her strong track record in improving financial performance, enhancing clinical and corporate governance, and building community partnerships aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver sustainable, high-quality health services.

A qualified Physiotherapist, Tanya remains registered with AHPRA, and began her career as a pharmacy assistant before transitioning to become a sports trainer and first aid officer.  Each of these roles reflects her hands-on experience in frontline health and care. Her long-standing commitment to volunteering underpins her dedication to compassionate service and community values.

In addition to her clinical background, Tanya holds a Master of Business Administration, a Graduate Diploma in Health Economics and is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, credentials that complement her practical experience and reinforce her strategic leadership capabilities.

Through a blend of clinical, operational and strategic expertise, Tanya combines governance, financial performance and community focus, positioning her as a leader who bridges high-level management with real-world care, committed to delivering sustainable, people-centred health services.

Darryl Stewart

General Manager Commercial Services

Darryl Stewart has been a valued member of St John Ambulance Queensland since 2019, when he joined the organisation as Supply Chain Manager. A results‑driven leader with more than 20 years of experience across a diverse range of industries, Darryl brings a strong strategic mindset and a commitment to operational excellence.

In 2022, Darryl was appointed General Manager, Training, Product & Services, a role in which he has demonstrated his ability to drive revenue growth, enhance customer satisfaction, and implement effective strategies that maximise efficiency across the division. Under his leadership, St John’s customer service processes have been significantly streamlined, supported by his adept use of cutting‑edge technology and continuous improvement practices.

Darryl’s leadership continues to play a key role in strengthening St John Queensland’s commercial operations and delivering high‑quality services to the community.

Opal Halliday

General Manager Community Services

Opal first joined St John Ambulance Queensland in 2020 as Manager of Volunteering Community Services. 

With a focus on the transition to the Aged Care Reform – Support at Home Program and NDIS growth Opal has worked to create strategic plans for innovation, guide ideation processes and launch new services and processes ensuring focus on continuous improvement. 

Providing leadership, program support and strategic development for numerous Government funded aged care community and volunteer programs, Opal oversees our Community Services department ensuring compliance standards and statutory obligations are met. 

Opal is responsible for management of our fleet vehicles of various capacity, community services team members and volunteers providing services within the Aged Care, NDIS and Education industry state-wide.

Suzanne Burgess-Dean

Chief Financial Officer

Suzanne is an experienced Chartered Accountant having spent 9 years working in the commercial business sector and 17 years in public practice. Suzanne has worked across a range of industries and business types throughout her career. 

As Chief Financial Officer for St John Ambulance Queensland, Suzanne strives to provide our stakeholders with detailed, accurate and timely information to ensure decision making is effective and uncompromised. 

Suzanne manages our finance team to ensure all financial processes and procedures are compliant and up to date.
