Expanded transport services for under 65's across Moreton Bay
People aged under 65 who experience transport disadvantage across Bribie Island and the former Pine Rivers suburbs will soon have greater access to essential services, thanks to Queensland Government funding supporting St John Queensland’s Community Transport service.
From 1 February 2026, eligible residents can access safe, reliable and subsidised transport for medical appointments, shopping, and essential community activities, helping them stay healthy, independent and connected to their communities.
The expansion is funded through the Queensland Government’s Community Transport Program (CTP), which supports not-for-profit organisations to deliver affordable transport services for people who have difficulty accessing public or private transport due to disability, chronic illness, financial hardship or other barriers. CTP transport options fill a vital need in the community, with eligibility not limited those with disability or aged care funding – which allows more people in need to access this important service.
Ariana Doolan MP, State Member for Pumicestone, said the service would make a meaningful difference for local residents.
“The Crisafulli Government is proud to support St John in delivering reliable, low-cost community transport for under-65 locals on Bribie Island and surrounding suburbs, improving access to medical appointments, essential services and community connection.”
St John Queensland has delivered Community Transport services in North Brisbane for more than 20 years, and this latest expansion responds to strong local demand in fast-growing areas of the Moreton Bay region where transport options for people aged under 65 are limited. This expansion includes key areas including North Lakes, Kallangur, Griffin, Strathpine and Albany Creek, as well as Bribie Island, Caboolture and Beachmere.
Closing a critical transport gap
While many transport services are targeted toward seniors or specific disability programs, people under 65 can often fall through the gaps — despite facing significant challenges getting to healthcare, shops, and community activities.
This expansion directly addresses that gap by supporting residents of these areas, aged under 65, who are otherwise ineligible for traditional transport services, improving access to healthcare and essential services and enabling greater participation in community life.
Trusted local provider

As a trusted not-for-profit organisation focused on supporting local communities, St John Queensland delivers low-cost, high-quality transport delivered by trained staff who understand the needs of vulnerable community members. The addition of these service areas complements the services already in place for Seniors and vulnerable community members across North Brisbane.
Opal Halliday, General Manager Community Services at St John Queensland, said the expansion reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting people who face barriers to everyday activities.
“We know how important reliable transport is for people who may already be facing barriers to staying healthy, independent, or connected to their community,” Mrs Halliday said. “This expansion ensures more people can get the support they need, when they need it.”
The service will support residents across Bribie Island and the former Pine Rivers suburbs, strengthening access to essential services and helping more people remain active participants in their local communities. With trips starting from just $3 for up to 8km of travel, the service offers a highly affordable option for people who may otherwise struggle to get where they need to go.
