Brett is an accomplished Executive Manager with over half of his 20 year+ IT Management career being at the CIO level. He is passionate about driving strategic outcomes through a clear focus on the customer experience, transforming organisational culture as a part of the process. This focus and self-accountability sees him regularly collaborating throughout the organisations he works with and being involved in many activities and processes that are often outside the ‘normal’ CIO responsibilities.

During his career so far, Brett has worked in industry sectors as varied as Architecture/Interior Design, Natural Resources, Education, Financial Services, the Arts/Entertainment, Agribusiness, Retail, Welfare/Charity, Healthcare and Emergency Services. This gives Brett a holistic perspective which he applies in addressing organisational challenges irrespective of sector.

His volunteer roles have seen him spend 21 years with St John (so far!) – in what used to be called Operations Branch (now HMS) and in Training as a qualified instructor before taking a break then returning to St John in his current role on the Board.  He also spent 6 years’ with the Queensland Ambulance Service as an Honorary Ambulance Officer and casual Paramedic.  Away from health, Brett served for 5 years as a Member and then Chair of the School Council for Rainworth State School whilst concurrently Member and then President of the school’s Parents and Citizens Association.

Brett is a strong believer that great leadership brings out the best in people, and that people doing their best, deliver.  He is an accomplished leader, having led people in normal organisational situations, but also in very high-pressure situations such as the 2011 Queensland Floods Disaster.

To the above significant experience, he brings academic rigour – holding an Executive MBA from the University of Sydney and Bachelor of IT (double-major) from QUT; as well as IT industry certifications.  He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Member of the Australian Computing Society.

Brett re-joined St John in 2021, initially as an independent member of the Board’s Finance and Audit Committee, before being appointed as a Director in August 2021.  Brett is currently the Interim Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.
