Our standard First Aid for the Mind course has been contextualised for a variety of industry sectors so that workers and associates from various occupational, professional and industry backgrounds receive training that has more relevance and focus for their particular environment and needs.

On demand from major clients or industry bodies, St John can contextualise this course for any of the other major industry sectors, including Financial Services, Retail, Manufacturing, Mining, Energy, Community Services, Agriculture, Hospitality & Tourism, Marine, Transport, Defence and Government.
Mental illness is a leading cause of disability, death and suffering in Australia. Mental illness is also a leading factor in deaths by suicide and suicide attempts.
These industry-specific courses address risk factors such as work deadline pressures, project-based work contracts and impacts of gender. It reflects the community’s shifting focus on the important role mental health plays in workers’ well-being.
Course Overview
Better Mental Health in Your Industry courses are specifically developed to support critical mental health challenges in the selected industry. It provides participants with information on common mental illnesses, including depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress, suicidal thoughts and substance use disorders.
St John brings the same approach to Better Mental Health in Your Industry series as it has successfully brought to First Aid training as one of Australia’s leading Training Providers – Prevention, Early intervention, a Risk-based approach, simple, easy to follow Action Plans and team work to support effective resolutions.
Participants will learn how to identify mental health problems, provide initial support and referral to professional services where appropriate.
Learning Outcomes
The Learning Objectives are for participants to:
- Recognise signs and symptoms of mental illness (including Depression, Anxiety and Substance misuse) and address the stigma associated with Mental Illness
- Understand how to approach situations, especially initiating conversations including
- The first critical step in asking for help
- Helping workers to reconnect with their supports and replacing unhealthy habits and practices with healthy ones
- Understand the simple actions steps to provide that initial support
- Communicate Mental Health problems in the workplace
- Practice skills and build confidence
- Identify a range of resources to call upon or to refer people to, including:
• Relevant and available support organisations and networks and using existing resources more effectively
• Providing information, relevant resource links
Certificates
This is a non-accredited course. On successful completion of this course you will be issued a Certificate of Attendance.
Delivery options

This is a full-day face-to-face course and participants are required to attend the full workshop.
2 x 3.5 Hour Sessions
These sessions will be delivered via Virtual Classroom delivery.
