Spreading the love to our regional centres

News from St John - 15 Apr 2021

Summer House – supporting families in Mackay.

One of the things we love to do most is support other organisations who are doing wonderful things, and not just in the city, but in our regional centres.

Summer House in Mackay contacted us as they were needing support to get a first aid kit and defib case at their centre.

We were so happy to oblige and were fortunate to have our restockist, Isabella, there to present them to Stacee from Summer House.

Even though we are a NFP ourselves, the resources that we have at hand allow us to spread the love… and we could all do with a little more of that!

While planning the delivery of the defib case and first aid kit, I asked Stacee a couple of questions about Summer House

What does Summerhouse do and where are they active and how long has Summerhouse been going?

All Abilities Mackay is a charity for local people with disabilities and their families. We are in touch with over 350 local people with disabilities and their families.

We have been working hard over the past 7 years to fill gaps in services across our region, all from the convenience of our Founder Bec’s home. All Abilities was able to secure a great council owned building and committed to a 5-year lease, with the option to renew.

All Abilities Mackay began operating in 2011 via Mackay PCYC, and formalised its Charity status in 2013. We are made by the people, for the people, and as such we have a unique understanding of where the gaps in services lie, and we work hard voluntarily to fill those gaps to assist families and their loved ones.

What does having this donation from St John mean to Summer House?

The donation from St John means that we now we are providing a safe environment for our children and families. It eases the parents state of mind that we have this medical equipment and supplies on hand in the event of an emergency. And we the staff are beyond grateful for the kindness and support St John have shown our NFP Charity.
