Make a Difference: Volunteer with St John Ambulance

News from St John - 2 May 2025

National Volunteer Week, from 19–25 May, is the perfect time to celebrate the essential role volunteers play in our communities.

In Moreton Bay, St John Queensland offers a variety of opportunities for locals to get involved, make a meaningful impact and develop valuable skills.

For over 140 years, St John Queensland has been supporting those in need, providing lifesaving training and community services. Volunteering with St John not only allows individuals to contribute to their local community but also offers professional development, accredited first aid training and the chance to build lasting friendships while making a real difference.

“Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, yet for many older Australians, reliable transport remains one of the greatest barriers. Our volunteers are vital in bridging this gap, ensuring that older Australians can attend essential healthcare appointments and stay connected to the broader community.

SJAQ’s community support programs are designed to enhance social connections, offering regular visits to aged care facilities and home visits where our volunteers provide companionship, engage in meaningful conversations, and offer a listening ear.

Each volunteer undergoes thorough training, ensuring they possess the skills and knowledge to deliver the highest quality support. We believe that every individual, regardless of age, deserves to feel valued, connected, and cared for.”

– Opal Halliday, General Manager Community Services.
