Around 1 in 5 Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year. Understanding how to talk about mental health and help someone in need are important skills. Many people feel uncomfortable and unprepared when thinking about starting a conversation with someone they are concerned about.
During a Mental Health First Aid® (MHFATM) course, participants will learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems and learn the skills to feel confident and be able to help.
Having mental health first aid skills means that you can assist someone developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis and make a real difference in your community.
Mental Health First Aid courses are facilitated by skilled instructors trained and licenced by MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID AUSTRALIA.
Course Overview
Course participants are required to complete the interactive self-paced eLearning component that teaches them about mental health problems, mental health crises, and skills to offer initial help to an adult developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis.
On completion of the eLearning, participants will be required to complete 2 x 2.5 hour webinar sessions that will be delivered by a licenced Mental Health First Aid instructor via videoconferencing and will allow participants the opportunity to revise and consolidate knowledge and skills in a group environment, and to apply their skills to specific scenarios.

Certificates
Accredited Mental Health First AiderTM
Participants who satisfactorily complete the online assessment will receive a Certificate of Accreditation from Mental Health First Aid Australia, valid for three years.
Note this is not a VET-accredited course.
Note, this is an education course designed to teach people the skills to give first aid to others, it is not a therapy or support group.
Delivery options
We offer a variety of delivery methods to suit your needs. You can attend a Public Course selected from the list below. You can also request this course to be delivered on-site at your workplace or a venue of your choosing. Please contact us for further information.
5-7 Hours of online learning, 2 x 2.5 hours delivered via video conference
Participants will be required to undertake an online e-learning module prior to attending a zoom virtual workshop for practice and assessment. Participants will need a computer with video and sound for this delivery option.
Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Participants must be adults, 18 years or older.
