As a junior or cadet volunteer you will learn valuable skills in first aid, as well as developing social and leadership skills. It’s an active program with an emphasis on having fun. Cadet volunteers are aged between 11 and 18 years and junior volunteers are aged between 8 and 11 years.
Cadets provide first aid services (under adult supervision) at various public functions, including sporting games, festivals, shows and local community gatherings. Cadets are also given the chance to compete in first aid competitions at local, state and national level.
There are also opportunities to earn proficiency badges and awards. Badges include fire safety, canoeing, cooking, animal care, road and personal safety. On the completion of the appropriate number of badges and years of service, juniors are awarded the Commissioner's Badge whilst Cadets receive the Grand Prior’s Badge. Cadets are also encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Juniors and Cadets enjoy various camps and excursions, including the Annual State and National Cadet Camps which are held in different locations each year during school holidays.
For more information, download the Cadet brochure.
St John Cadets and juniors form friendships whilst having fun and learning first aid in a community spirited environment. For the location of your closest cadet division please submit a volunteer enquiry form.
