Each year members of St John Ambulance (Qld) come together to test their first aid skills at the State First Aid Competitions. Winners then go on to compete with other states throughout Australia in the National First Aid Competitions.
Competitors are judged on their treatment of casualties in mock emergency scenarios. The scenarios are designed to test the teams’ competency in emergency first aid, patient care and triage. Competitors were given no prior warning of the nature of the incidents and emergencies.
Casualties are made up to realistically simulate injury and illness, recreating physical signs for more effective demonstration of first aid skills.
